Sweet Charity @ Weston Town Hall

Spring has officially made her debut in New England. As the temperatures slowly warm and the flowers start to bloom, it seems particularly appropriate that rehearsals for the Weston Friendly Society’s production of Sweet Charity have started to heat up. Inspired by Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria, Sweet Charity explores the turbulent love life of Charity Hope Valentine, a hopelessly romantic but comically unfortunate dance hall hostess in New York City. With a tuneful, groovy, mid-1960s score by Cy Coleman, sparkling lyrics by Dorothy Fields, and a hilarious book by Neil Simon, Sweet Charity captures all the energy, humor, and heartbreak of Life in the Big City for an unfortunate but irrepressible optimist.

Directed and choreographed by Daniel Forest Sullivan, and featuring original choreography by Bob Fosse, Sweet Charity continues the theme of the Weston Friendly Society’s season: “What is success?” Annie searched for her family while Daddy Warbucks questioned whether his wealth had made him truly happy; the contestants of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee grappled with their ambition to win and what true success looks like. Now Charity Hope Valentine searches for love in all the wrong places, plucky and optimistic and determined to find her other half.

Audience members will be enchanted by the transformation into a 1960s dance hall. Have you ever wanted to sit on the stage? Well now is your chance! Sweet Charity will take over the floor of the Weston Town Hall auditorium. Our signature cabaret seating will be on both the floor and the stage. Due to this production’s unique staging, late seating may be significantly delayed. Plan to arrive early enough to get your pick of seats! Please note that this show contains mature themes and may not be suitable for all audiences. All tickets are general admission and seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Performances are Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 PM, Sunday, May 12 at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 17 at 7:30 PM and Saturday, May 18 at 2:00 and 7:30 PM. All performances will take place at the Weston Town Hall.
