In Fun Home, Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori weave the cartoon panels of Alison Bechdel’s sharp, personal, and widely-acclaimed graphic novel into a haunting musical filled with precise details and sharply defined moments.  Alison’s story is transformed into a pastiche of time and place, slipping from her childhood when the Bechdels lived over the family’s business, the Bechdel Funeral Home (or “Fun Home,” as the family called it), through Alison’s college years when she came out to herself and her family, to the present as the adult Alison, looking back, tries to patch up her relationship with her family, especially her conflicted, angry, exacting father. The songs are pointed, impactful, at times enchanting as they echo a bygone day, but also heart-wrenching and poignant. Fun Home won five Tony awards, including Best Musical, and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

The cast for the show includes: Kathleen Comber (Roslindale), Abigail Mack (Bridgewater), Sydney Johnston (Belmont), Alex Thayer (Maynard), Lea Oppedisano (Hopkinton), Alex Massarotti (Sudbury), Tate Cinti (Wayland), Charley Lapomardo (Cambridge), and John Crampton (Dedham).  The choreographer, Jen Condon, is from Arlington, the musical director, Howard Boles is from Marlboro, and the stage director, Donnie Baillargeon, is from Waltham.
