Wayland Patch 1/9/13: Selectmen Unanimously Recommend Two Budget Initiatives, Split on Third. Wayland selectmen Monday night had no trouble coming to unanimous agreement on supporting funds for a new police officer and new firefighter/paramedic in the Fiscal Year 2014 budget, but supporting funds for WaylandCares was another story.

Wayland Town Crier 1/8/13: Wayland selectmen disagree over Wayland Cares funding. The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted on Monday night to support the budget requests from the police and fire chiefs for one additional officer each, but sparks flew over the proposal to recommend that Town Meeting approve $102,000 to fund Wayland Cares, a community coalition supporting healthy youth decision-making.

Wayland Police and Fire departments submit budget requests

Wayland Town Crier 12/20/12: Wayland Police and Fire departments submit budget requests. As town officials finalize budget figures for presentation to Town Meeting for the fiscal year running from July 2013 to June 2014, Police Chief Robert Irving and Fire Chief Vinnie Smith met with the Board of Selectmen last week to garner support, including hiring one additional full-time employee for each of their departments.

Wayland Patch 10/18/12: School Committee, Residents Question FinCom on Reduced Budgets. Schedule a meeting to discuss a possible 10 percent budget cut to Wayland schools, and you’ll likely attract a crowd too big for the meeting room. That’s what happened Monday night as residents packed shoulder to shoulder in the School Committee hearing room for a discussion between the School Committee and the Finance Committee about the recently released budget guidelines for Fiscal Year 2014.

Wayland Town Crier 10/18/12: Wayland School Committee bristles at FinCom request. Repeated mention was made of the fact that, among the top six schools in the Boston Magazine survey, Wayland spent the smallest amount per pupil. School Committee Chairwoman Barb Fletcher also spoke of the difficulty of having discussions of cuts in budget and personnel in public and on cable TV.
