Wayland residents receive Ken Moon Award
Wayland Town Crier 3/21/13: Wayland residents receive Ken Moon Award. Longtime Wayland residents Mary and John Antes are the recipients of the 2012 Ken Moon Award, given by the Conservation Commission in recognition of their outstanding contributions to promote the town’s past and future through conservation work. The award was presented at the commission’s meeting on Feb. 28.
Wayland’s next Earth Day to spotlight green houses
Wayland Town Crier 2/14/13: Wayland’s next Earth Day to spotlight green houses. Since Oct. 31, 2012, the Lees have 28 operational solar panels on their roof, generating an estimated 7,412 kilowatt hours per year. Last summer they signed up with the Solarize program, a joint project with Lincoln and Sudbury, which allowed them to participate in a growing renewable energy future in an economically advantageous way. They invested about $10,000 and expect a cash payback period of approximately four years. In addition to the practical advantages, they are excited to be on the cutting edge of solar power, and point out they can even track their collection rate online.
Wayland High School earns award for being green
Wayland Town Crier 11/29/12: Wayland High School earns award for being green. Wayland High School was among nine schools in Massachusetts that earned CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) Verified status, an elite award for healthy, high performance green school buildings.
